Agree who will protect and pack the work
Ask the owner and packer what protection is appropriate for the surface, corners and frame. Do not dismantle a frame, remove glazing or roll a work merely to reduce the parcel size without their agreement. Any change in format should be reflected in the contents description and packing plan.
Confirm whether the piece will travel in a carton, protective case or a crate requiring a separate assessment. Packing materials, packing labor and specialist transport are not automatically included in an ordinary parcel quote. If packing is arranged at another address, identify that final dispatch location.
Measure after protection has been added
Provide the packed weight and external length, width and height of every finished package in lbs/inch or kg/cm. Include cushioning and the outer container. If a work and its detached stand will be sent separately, list them as separate parcels with their own measurements.
Give the complete overseas recipient address, country and postal code, the agreed release date and available handover hours. Distinguish an exhibition closing date from a confirmed ready date. City shipping questions
Are the dimensions of the image enough for a quote?
No. Provide the outside dimensions and weight of the completed shipping package, including the frame, protection and outer container.
Does a quote include removing glass or building a crate?
Do not assume so. Agree any packing, dismantling or specialist work separately and describe the final package for assessment.
Can collection be requested before an exhibition ends?
You can provide the expected release date for review, but the authorized holder must confirm when the work is available and ready to hand over.
